Wildcard Coaches Responsibilities

CONGRATULATIONS! You are one step closer!

Without all of your hard work and sacrifice, your Team would not have got this far. We hope you are of one 3 to make it!.

Over the next few days, lots of reading, several docs to do then Coaches Meeting and Seeding Conference Call THEN the Wildcard Tourney.

While your Game Director is the boss of the Game and responsible for its presentation to the Teams and the fans, you, Coach, are responsible for your game and all aspects of the conduct of your players, assistants, managers and fans while at this Tournament, both on and off the court.

As players coaches and organizers (both current and past), we are very concerned with a rise in fans insulting opposing players, their fans as well as officials. Absolutely no inappropriate conduct or language will be tolerated.  In the case of any inappropriate behaviour, as deemed by the Tournament Chairman, one warning will be given; an additional problem will result in a Tourney expulsion with an immediate call and report to your school’s administration.  We remind all that attendance as a coach, player, or a fan is a privilege not a right.  Cheer FOR your team NOT AGAINST the other.

Coach, you are reminded that that you are responsible for all on your bench, please make sure that your assistants read this information.

An Invitation is a Privilege and not a Right.

These are your Responsibilities:

1. Read The Team and Fan Conduct expectations.

2. Check the website particularly News and Updates every day.  We post updates and any new information on the News & Updates section.  New info from today until the end of the Wildcard Tournament is being added constantly; your responsibility for checking for updates.  Please note we are using group emails less and less.  If you are unclear about anything, please contact us immediately.

3. Respect all deadlines for required information.  Most of our forms are now online making it easier to submit the required information.

4. Start on the Resources page and follow the Wildcard Tournament Information Items.

5. The Wildcard Coaches Meeting and Seeding Conference call will review Tourney Info as well as establish seeding and first game times.  Seeding Conf Call Info (Item B7) and Seeding Worksheets (Items C 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d) will help you during the Conference call.

6. INCOMING COACH – Pre/Post Game Duties – Schedules are tight so be aware of times.

a. Keep your team off the bench until the other team has cleared all of their gear from the bench and the Game Director waves your team in.  Usually at this point your players are on the floor warming up and the managers move the team gear to the bench from the baseline.  Follow this and we do not waste time later looking for missing and lost player or team gear.

b. Ensure that all information on the scoresheet is accurate before you sign off.  The names are copied from the website team roster page several hours prior to game time.

c. 10 minutes prior to Game Time, there is a pre-game meeting with the Game Director, both Referees and all Coaches including your Assistant Coaches/Sponsors in front of the scorer’s bench, to introduce yourselves and review all game responsibilities.  This happens at each of your games.

e. You and your assistants will be reminded about the High Standards of Conduct (including language directed both on court and at your bench).

h. Back at the bench, remind your Assistants, Managers and Players of our absolute zero tolerance for poor sportsmanship and bad language.  As Head Coach, you and your team will be held responsible for the conduct of your players and fans.

i. Remind players that only 1 warning will be given.

j. Players should have shirts tucked in when entering and during the game.

7. INCOMING & OUTGOING COACHES

Inspect your Dressing Room upon your arrival and then again on your departure. Report any damage.  Please ensure you do this, as any damages found will be charged to the last team in the change room unless damage was previously reported.

FAN CONDUCT – There has been a disturbing number of problems reported. Coach, it is important to remind you that your Team will be held responsible for the conduct and language of your fans.  There is zero tolerance and only 1 warning shall be given.  A second incident will result in ejection from this Tournament and an immediate report to your School Administrator.  We emphasize that participating or watching these Games is a privilege not a right.

Please note that the 29th ANNUAL GRADE 9 BOYS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT (formerly the BC High School Annual Grade 9 Boys Invitational Provincial Basketball Championships), is conducted as a not-for-profit event by the volunteer organizers. 100% of all monies (Tourney Fees, Gate, Merchandise, Concession, Advertising and Sponsorships etc.), are directly received by the Host School for the benefit of their basketball programs.

We expect that all coaches, team staff, players and fans will conduct themselves in a manner that is a credit to their Teammates, their Coaches, their Schools and the Game.  We are certain that you will enjoy yourselves and this great game.  Once again, Congratulations, work hard and have fun.  And Thank You for all you do.
